U3A Calander 2018

The Photography group project has resulted in a very attractive calendar for 2018 showing a range of local pictures; this would make a great Christmas present for family and friends. Calendars will be available at the September meeting and are £6 each or you can buy two for £10

.

 

 

MUSICAL EVENING on 10 November
We will be treated to a selection of Country and 60s music by multi British award winning singer, musician and songwriter Nancy Ann Lee. A hot meal will be available at the start of the evening. Tickets are just £10 and we expect demand to be high. Please put the date in your diary. Tickets will be on sale at the September and October meetings.

 

BRIDGE AND AFTERNOON TEA AT HIGH LANE VILLAGE HALL
There will be a Bridge event on Saturday 16 September from 2pm - 4.30pm in the Large Hall.

The cost will be £6 per person or £20 per table of four and includes afternoon tea. All proceeds will go to Village Hall Funds

Friday 29th September

WINE TASTING EVENING


At this event members and friends will present a series of six different wines for you to taste. There will be three whites and three reds of varying styles to suit all tastes plus a selection of cheese and savoury biscuits.


Tickets cost £6 and will be on sale at the July and August meetings. There may be a few left over for September, but to be safe, book your ticket at the August meeting

Change of speaker for March meeting

The planned speaker for the meeting on 8 March is unfortunately unable to attend so the talk on that day will be 'Gardens through the Year' presented by Walter Mason.

24 January

Greater Manchester Network of U3As Literature day.

Monday 27 March 2017 10:30am to 4pm at Cross St Chapel, Cross St, Manchester. Tickets are just £5. In the morning session  there will be presentations on self publishing, the poems of Raymond Carver and 'My favourite book'. The afternoon sessions are Russian Literature, live theatre and  poetry writing. 

U3As who are members of the Greater Manchester Network have priority for tickets.

History Course A 10 week  course on  the history of Radical  Women 1914-1979  will start on Tuesday 14th February 2017 11am to 1pm. This  will take place at the Working Class Movement  Library, 51 The Crescent,  Salford M5. The cost will be £60. It will be taught by the historian  Michael Herbert, MA, and  will include the following:

  •     Women’s anti-war movements in the First World War
  •     Women Councillors in the 1920s
  •     Campaigns for birth control in the 1920s
  •     The General Strike of 1926
  •     Women’s unemployed marches in the 1930s
  •     Women volunteers in the Spanish Civil War
  •     Women’s Parliaments during  the Second World War 
  •     The work  of Joan Littlewood and Shelagh Delaney in the 50s and 60s
  •      The emergence of the Women’s Liberation Movement in the late 1960s

Annual Lunch 2017.
This year’s Annual Lunch is on Monday 6 March 2017. The venue is Hazel Grove Golf Club and we have a mouthwatering choice of dishes on the menu. Tickets cost £20 and will be on sale at the January and February meetings. If you can't get to one of the meetings please contact Andre Lister to reserve and pay for your ticket. Numbers are limited so don’t delay in booking your places.

Nomination for Committee 2017
- Several Committee members are retiring this year so we need new Committee members for 2017. These will be elected at the AGM in February. If you would like to join the Committee please print off the nomination form from the last page of the November newsletter, ask fellow members to nominate and second you, and give the completed form to Margaret McDermott or Sue Harlin before the AGM.
