January

The new year started with a very pleasant meal at the Deanwater, marred only by being too substantial for some of us! (Doggy bags came to the rescue!)

February

Then in February, ten of us visited West Drive Gardens in Gatley, where a light drizzle didn't spoil the lovely show of early spring bulbs, hellebores and cyclamen. Especially when set against magnificent varied shrub backdrops, gravelled pond and alpine surrounds, and majestic white-barked himalayan birch. Tea, coffee, scone and fancy buns in a cosy sheltered arbour rounded off a dampened but superb afternoon.

March

Following the Corona virus outbreak, the gardening group hope to continue by sharing comments about their gardens, accompanied by photos. The first report went out on the 23rd March.

It featured 2 pictures from Deirdre, one of the new patio behind her conservatory, and also a group of spring flowers. Also 3 pictures from Walter, first of a wood pigeon (not universally liked!), then crocuses (gorgeous a week ago, now been and gone!), and lastly camellia (last year half hidden behind a shrub, the shrub now removed).

The hope is that in following weekends, others in the group can put out something similar from their garden(s), and so on - - -. Walter waits with bated breath.- After recent news what else is there to do!

The gardening group are continuing to share weekly comments and garden/flower photos of their choice, and are summarised below.

5 April
Chris Harrison, laid up after a bad fall, showed some gorgeously colourful orchids to admire, selected from a past visit to Singapore for us.

12 April
At Easter various pictures came - 2 from Lynda, a magnolia and hyacinths; 3 from Lynn showing different aspects of her front garden; and 3 from Deirdre including fairly rare double primroses and celandines (arguably Wordsworth's favourite flower!).

19 April
No photos came from the group this week, so a mixed bag from Walter including Magnolia Stellata by (pink) moonlight, Amelanchier, Orchids, and two garden views.

29 April
This report by Chris Fontaine featured Bodnant's winter garden (such a shame all the NT gardens closed). Chris praised the exceptional skill in the way planting combinations have been put together and believed it to be the best winter garden .

May

Gardening group members have continued to contribute pictures for a weekly report. Attached are a selected three pictures each from Chris, Deirdre,Irene, Lynda, Lynn and Ruth, plus a couple of VE75 pictures. Walter Mason

June

In June, around 40 pictures of members gardens and flowers were circulated to the group.. A small selection is here, each from a -different gardener - Chris/Jackie, Deirdre, Lynda, Walter, Lynn, and Ruth. Walter Mason

July

Selected from the many of the groups interchanged pictures, are photos from Chis, Ruth, Maureen, Walter and Lynda, as well as 4 pictures of Arley Hall Gardens now open without pre-booking, and looking lovely.  Walter

September

The gardening group has continued to circulate flower and gardening photos from each other's gardens. Further afield, Abbeywood near Delamere (concession £5) is still very colourful, while Parsonage Garden/Fletcher Moss Garden (free) makes a pleasant change (£2 to park for 3 hours at the Didsbury Pub - refunded if you have a drink!).

October

November

Garden flowers became scarcer in the colder weather, but our gardeners still found colour in their gardens, and also for Remembrance Sunday a hint of remembrance from a former soldier  (Walter - national service!).

December

In spite of soggy soil and the onset of Winter, there are still flowers around and photo opportunities in nooks and crannies of our gardens, plus some seasonal creations, as we continued to circulate pictures round the group. Hopefully next year we can start to meet as normal.
