The Finance Group has continued to meet every 2 months on the second
Wednesday at 4pm in the High Lane Village Hall. We were requested
to try to roll out the concept over a wider audience within the Pennine
region. Hence we contacted the various U3A groups within the
region, and we have encountered a pleasing response with members
attending the recent meetings from Marple, Mellor, Marple Bridge,
Buxton and Romiley.
Our guest at the January meeting was James McLellan, who is part of the Marple based
Savoy Investment Management Group. They are member of the Stock
Exchange. James provided information on investing in shares and gave details of what services are
available here on our doorstep.
Unfortunately we were unable to have a March meeting.
At the meeting on 9th May the topic was "Investing in wine" together with a wine
tasting.
At the July meeting the guest speaker was Scott
Grayson who owns the Edward Mellor franchise that covers Marple and
High Lane. He covered a wide spectrum
of the housing market such as
- where prices are currently going;
- investing in double glazing or any other home improvements,
and the effect that these may have on the
value of a house;
- how long it will possibly take to sell a house;
- what are the tricks of the trade to watch out for;
- and numerous matters that members raised.
There was no meeting in September.
