Each
term we hold a mixture of house meetings and meetings at
Brookside Primary School, High Lane, where we have
use of
their
computers and are able to print off material.
We
mainly focus on
internet based material which is useful to those of
us
whose family
roots are not local but we also discuss wider
social issues
and look
at problems and progress. Our more
experienced
members are able
to work on their own but beginners and those with
less
experience
will be given every assistance with using the
computers and
understanding the wealth of information available
both on
the internet and elsewhere. For these members we can provide
a
structured programme looking at basic web sites, census information,
parish records
and many other
topics. We also have a library of research guides and access
to a
fiche reader. We are not experts in this field,
simply
enthusiastic amateurs and we are always open to suggestions as to how
we can improve the help we provide at all stages.
Studying family history can be a frustrating hobby and progress can be
painfully slow, but the excitement when a breakthrough comes is very
rewarding.
